# Disabling macOS Indicator Dots

##### Do you want to prevent this from happening again?

1. Start up from macOS Recovery. 
    1. Intel: CMD + R after boot
    2. Apple Silicon: Press and hold power for 10 seconds
2. From the Utilities menu in the menu bar in macOS Recovery, choose Terminal.
3. Enter this command: `system-override suppress-sw-camera-indication-on-external-displays=on`
4. Quit Terminal.
5. From the Apple menu, choose Restart, then log in to your user account.
6. From the Apple menu, choose System Settings, then click Privacy &amp; Security in the sidebar.
7. Click Microphone. Or click Camera.
8. Turn off Privacy Indicators.
